Reaction Table

Game Rating Reaction
Asheron's Call I 0 out of 4 It's very dated, and they've come out with sequels, but I did not enjoy my time in AC I at all. Time spent playing: wishing I wasn't playing.
City of Heroes 3 out of 4 This game brings so much to MMORPGs by bringing so little. There is great simplicity in this game but staggering variety as well. It has been, by far, the most fun MMORPG I've played, and yet there looms a flavor of "it's all the same." Time spent playing: soooo many characters with the desire to try out different combinations!
City of Villains 3 out of 4 CoV is more of a partner game to City of Heroes than an expansion or successor. It has the same game mechanics, same graphics, similar powers, and over the same feeling to CoH, but with the new classes and addition of PvP, there is a lot more added to the City of franchise. If you like CoH, you'll like CoV. If you didn't like CoH, give CoV a try--it might surprise you. Time spent playing: making even more characters, trying to figure out which I like best.
D&D Online 3 out of 4 Surprisingly faithful to the pencil and paper form of Dungeons and Dragons, DDO departs in a few necessary ways, but does so well. Suffers from video/load lag with graphics turned up, but still looks quite good. Not solo-friendly at all. Also needs a bit more content as repeating the same quests over and over again gets tedious and boring. Time spent playing: More damned Waterworks and Shan-To-Kar. Sigh!
Dark Ages of Camelot 3 out of 4 In many aspects, it's what an MMORPG should be. It just lacks engrossing content. Time spent playing: lots of PvE, frustrating RvR experiences.
EverQuest 3 out of 4 Lots of content, much easier to start with. Too much catering to the top 10% of the game population (and people who have way too much time to play). Time spent playing: years of my life I'll never get back.
EverQuest 2 3 out of 4 Much like Doom3 in the respect that the ... um ... size of your video card is in direct proportion to the framerate you'll see. $100 buys you 12-15fps at 1024, $600 buys you 30+fps at 1280. The actually feel and design of the game is fantastically diverse and pointed. It just gets old doing the Isle of Refuge and Citizenship quests so many times as I try out different characters.
Fung Wan Online 1 out of 4 A martial arts-based online game with a simple but somewhat enjoyable combat system--but that's about it. Time spent playing: enough to get really frustrated with spawn issues, and reliving the same content over and over again.
Horizons 2 out of 4 Promising, but it needs to figure out what kind of game it's really trying to be and go for broke. Time spent playing: lots of tradeskilling, fair amount of PvE, fair amount of exploring.
Lineage I 1 out of 4 A poor Diablo-ish wannabe. Time spent playing: controls and content were so horrible, I didn't get more than a few days in.
Lineage II 2 out of 4 A very pretty game with some sweet character designs. ;) But it has a "feel" about it very much the way FWO and L1 do. And the open PVP isn't fun when I'm just trying to level up.
Lord of the Rings Online 3 out of 4 While a decent MMORPG, it seemed like a cross between Dark Age of Camelot and City of Heroes. Nothing special for a non-fan of the Tolkien lore. Time spend playing: trying out each of the classes before my one week trial period ended.
Star Wars: Galaxies 2 out of 4 High hopes for this game, and what they did, they did really well. Except where's the game? No content other than generic quests. Time spent playing: lots of noob time, no high-end content, sooooo much boring running. Update: I tried the free 10-day preview of the revamped SW:G which showed a lot of promise. Maybe if I'm in the market for another MMO, I'll give it the second look it deserves.
World of Warcraft 3 out of 4 Sadly, not the cleanest launch for a game, but there's a reason the acronym is WoW. The game is certainly polished and it's not immediately noticable but there is a tremendous amount of content. It lacks the feeling of variety but that emotion settles a bit after investing some time into your characters.

Pencil and Paper RPGs

Over the years, I've created and accumulated many resources, both electronic and otherwise for P&P RPGs. I take part in AD&D , GURPS and other roleplaying games whenever possible and also enjoy playing (losing) the CCG Magic: The Gathering on occasion.

Current campaign: Waiting for D&D4E.
Current character: Not sure what I'll be playing for 4E.
