Blog
I'm slowly getting used to the idea of a blog (web log). I'm not sure if I'll support a regular blog because frankly, I don't see the value of self-promotion through mundane daily or weekly details. On the other hand, performing such frequent updates brings new life to this web site.
I haven't worked on this site forever. Well, I've worked on setting up a new Sunny's Funnies site with user-submission capabilities and a host of other options (like auto-generated emails on new posts), but it never saw the light of day. I haven't spent the time to figure out how to store .jpgs and .gifs into a database as a BLOB. I'm sure it's fairly easy, but I just haven't looked into it yet.
What I have been doing is a lot of rather complex web site programming. Most notably exciting and challenging has been the UH Hilo Online Parking System. Right now it is closed to only the parking office, but it is being built with the options of online permit registration and parking citation payment in mind. What has been complex about it is the level interrelation the back-end database has been built with. I've taken the old two table database (one registration table and one citation table which were barely relationally integrated) and turned it into a 12+ table fully relational MySQL database. I had to make it much more complex because of the new features that were being requested the database be able to perform. While I still have some substantial work to do on it, I'm quite pleased with how well it's come so far.
Other than that, I've been passing the time with my new Alienware desktop machine. Damn, it's pimp! I'm especially impressed with the GeForce3 Ti 500 video card! Although I'm not entirely sure I'm happy with the Plextor burner that came with it as it's been having issues reading regular data CDs (can't install programs from that drive), I haven't taken the time to explore if it's just some funky setting I need to change in WinXP.
Ah, yes... Windows XP. At first glance, it seems to be Windows 2000 on training wheels. While annoying, I have been growing acustomed to it. I like the reliable and stable skinning options (with the help of a few shareware programs). It does a lot more for me than simply changing my wallpaper.
Anyway, if you've made it this far, you've obviously more patience or boredom than I. :) I'll update this again whenever the muse is upon me.
